OMNI is the native asset of the Omni Layer protocol on Bitcoin. It was created during the first-ever cryptocurrency crowdsale in August 2013 — predating the term "ICO" by several years.
OMNI serves as the protocol's foundational token. It is used for fee distribution on the OmniDEX and can be traded on supported exchanges.
Disambiguation: The OMNI token listed on some exchanges as "Omni Network" (now rebranded to Nomina / $NOM) is a different asset on a different blockchain. The OMNI referenced on this page is the original Bitcoin-based token with property ID #1 on the Omni Layer.
